Acne Rosacea
Unlike acne vulgaris, acne rosacea is accompanied by red patches on the skin, spider veins and red cysts and sometimes a reddish tint in the eyes of the patient. This type of acne is incurable although there are treatment options that only help to minimize the flare-ups as well as the symptoms. This type of acne can flare up at any time and commonly affects people with fair skin. Often, it affects people of English and Scottish descent. The cause is however unknown.
Signs and symptoms are many and diagnosis is normally done by sight alone. One of the symptoms is a red patchy skin that surrounds the affected area. The patches normally appear around the mouth, the nose as well as the eyes. Another symptom of acne rosacea is visible blood vessels which are as a result of vessels dilating. Most of these vessels are found near or on the nose or on the cheeks.
This condition can also lead to the growth of red cysts. These cysts are normally larger and harder than regular pimples. If not immediately treated, the cysts can result into scarring. People who suffer from this type of acne may also get a reddish tint in their eyes which may be itchy and painful.
Another symptom of the disease is an enlarged nose especially in men. The cheeks may also swell but will return to normal after the condition has subsided. When this disease is at its peak, a patient will also experience nausea. Some of the common treatments for acne rosacea include topical treatment, oral treatment, retinoids, laser therapy and photodynamic therapy.
